Who are we?

City of Ladies started as a conversation among a mother and three daughters about what it looks like to be a woman.

There are as many versions of femininity as there are users on Twitter, but City of Ladies is about living a vision of womanhood that over the years in our lives we have glimpsed and sought after and pursued – and that we invite you to pursue with us.

It is a vision of women as intellectuals and creatives in their families and communities. Women who still embrace the uniqueness of our great gift: giving life to the world.

In a world that claims women can have it all and then makes us choose, we want to promote innovative ideas for women to have purposeful lives without giving up their intellect, career ambitions, creative pursuits - or their families.

So grab a drink and welcome to the conversation!

Introducing the Four Gals

We are a mother and three daughters - Gail Schroeder, Kiernan Fiore, Jillian Schroeder, and Bryna Destefani.

Gail retired from homeschooling in 2017 only to embark on her second career as an artist and writer. She’s an introvert so good luck finding her.

Kiernan is an English teacher who now practices ABCs with her preschooler and infant at home. She is a Midwestern transplant to New England via the American South and yes, there is a long story there. (Find her consulting at Beautiful Teaching.)

Jillian works in education after swearing never to become a teacher. Her true loves are movies, poetry, and her godchildren - not in that order.

Bryna will pour you a coffee, scramble you breakfast, and pack you a travel snack after leading you in pilates, so we’re hoping that she opens a spa soon. She’s a full-time mom, reader, writer, and lover of (non-pop) psychology, health & wellness, and a good mystery novel.
